The robust growth of the Chinese economy is set to continue this year with a leap of more than 9 percent in the first quarter of 2004. The textile industry is also flourishing, with textiles and apparel exports reaching a record high US$78 billion in 2003. Both these indicators confirm the potential of the Chinese textile & apparel markets, and in response to this fast development, Messe Frankfurt and the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT-Tex, the organisers of the Intertextile shows in China, will implement three new measures starting in 2004.

Creation of a key buyers day – ‘Exclusive’
Messe Frankfurt is launching a day reserved exclusively for invited visitors. This day will be known as ‘Exclusive’, and will enable exhibitors and key buyers to interact in a privileged working environment. The first ‘Exclusive’ will be held at Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics 2004 to be held from 26 – 29 October at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The last three days will be open to all trade visitors.

“I believe the success of our shows resides in our ability to rapidly respond to the fast changing market,” said Katy Lam, Director of Trade Fairs for Messe Frankfurt. “‘Exclusive’ is aimed to meet the industry demand for a more selective meeting platform. However, we still want to keep the show open to all buyers to enable exhibitors to meet new contacts - an essential element in this rapidly growing market”.

Consultant services for exhibitors
Exhibitors, especially the ones who are new to the Chinese market, are expected to receive thousands of sales leads per show. Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. will appoint a consultant, available on site, to help exhibitors evaluate sales leads, study companies’ backgrounds and follow up with prospective customers. Packages for interested exhibitors will be customised based on their requirements.

Guangdong province, up the Pearl River from Hong Kong, contributes 10 percent of China's economy, pours out one third of China's exports, and pulls in one third of China's total foreign investment. In the first quarter of 2004, it recorded a GDP of more than US$38 billion, a 15 percent increase from a year earlier, marking its highest growth over the past decade. These figures clearly demonstrate the importance of the province in the overall Chinese economy.

The province is also recognised as a major player in the apparel textile industry, and Shenzhen is particularly strong with a total of 3,000 garment enterprises located in the area. Six hundred of these companies carry 2000 to 3000 brands, mainly ladies fashion, distributed to the whole of China. A total of 70 percent of the fabrics used are imported, giving foreign companies the opportunity to enter this fast growing market.

Messe Frankfurt in conjunction with CCPIT-Tex and the Shenzhen Garments Industry Association will host a new event alongside the Shenzhen International Fashion Week; ‘Intertextile Pavilion Shenzhen’, which will be held from
16 -18 December 2004 at Shenzhen China Hi-Tech Fair Exhibition Center. Shenzhen will be the third Chinese city to host an Intertextile, reflecting the steady progress of the brand.
