Wool Textile Sales Suffer First Negative Year

Wool textile industry has fallen victim to the global credit crisis and weaker demand. Many Chinese enterprises have felt the chill and decided to turn their eyes away from European and American markets and focus back on the domestic market. According to China Wool Textile Association (CWTA), from January to April, the sales value of wool textile and wool products of China��s statistics-worthy enterprises plummeted 16.42 percent and 12.63 percent year-on-year respectively, the first recorded negative growth since 2000.
The shift from exports to home market isn't easy.
As more and more Chinese enterprises have decided to focus back on the domestic market, sales in domestic market is not enjoying a royal road. Sales of department stores for man's wool suit decreased 0.23 per cent in the January-April 2009 period; cashmere sweaters & wool sweaters up 2.73%.

Global sales continue to fall
China's wool textile industry saw a continued decline in imports and exports in the first four months this year, according to China Customs.

From January to April, the export delivery value of wool textile and wool products of China��s statistics-worthy enterprises plummeted 17.44 percent and 15.91 percent year-on-year respectively.

As you can see from thefifths table, in Jan.-Apr.,China's Jiangsu province ranked first in term of export, followed by Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong and Guangdong.
